Science

Here are some of the materials I have created to use in the secondary Science classroom!

Mars Analogue Mission (SNC1D/1P/1L)

I designed this immersive multi-day task as a way to seamlessly incorporate robotics and coding into the science classroom. Students worked together to design and execute an analogue Mars sample return mission using Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots in this authentic project-based activity.

Introduction to Genetics Case Study (SBI3C/SBI4U)

I created this case study to introduce hereditary genetics in a "discovery" type  guided case study. Students read an excerpt of an article written about a family's history of cystic fibrosis before the CFTR gene was discovered. Students learn how to read pedigrees, various genetics vocabulary, and how to construct Punnet Squares to predict possible phenotypic and genotypic ratios.

Cellular Respiration Simulation (SBI3C/SBI4U)

I thought of this activity as a way of making cellular respiration a little bit more fun and to reinforce the concept that the body's system all interact with each other for cellular respiration to occur. Students are given roles as body parts or cells and pass manipulatives to each other to simulate cellular respiration.

Zoo Case Study Inquiry
(SNC1P)

This ready to go multi-lesson package was created in conjunction with three other teacher candidates as a culminating activity for the Sustainable Ecoystems unit for Grade 9 Applied Science.

Illuminating Electricity STEM Project
(SNC1P)

This STEM project was developed with two other teacher candidates to be used as a mid-unit project for the Physics strand of Grade 9 Applied Science. In this project, students design a house using a blueprint and then wire their building so that it has funcitoning lights. All required worksheets, lesson plans, and assessment tools are included.  In addition to the STEM project, two accompanying lessons to introduce circuits are included.

Ray Diagram Instructional Video
(SNC2D)

A quick review on how to draw ray diagrams to find an image in a concave mirror.

SBI3C Resource Website

This website was created with two other teacher candidates to serve as a collection of resources that could be used in the SBI3C classroom. Resources for the Microbiology, Anatomy of Mammals, and Plants in the Natural Environment strands have been created and curated to use in the classroom. I designed the website and  was responsible for the Microbiology section.

Tell Me a Story About Climate Change! (SNC2P/D)

This complete lesson was created to incorporate multiliteracies teaching into the science classroom. Students learn about research, bias in science, and in the end will create a narrative that "tells the story" of climate change.

Stand Up for Sustainability (SNC1P)

This complete lesson was created to use a multicultural text as a springboard as a lesson with accommodations for an English language learner. Students read the story Seeds of Change by Jen Cullerton Johnson and complete a storymap key visual to organize facts from the story. Students will then use the same storymap key visual to organize research about a local environmental sustainability initiative. Students will create an endoresement for their researched initiative using any medium of their choice.
