My philosophy of education

My goal is to inspire my students to want to follow their dreams. I want to prepare my students for the world after school ends. I want my students to feel ready for life after high school. In my classroom, I want my students to have freedom that allows for creativity and gives them opportunities to express themselves as individuals. I want students to have a say in what and how they learn and I want to prepare my students to be brave enough to take on a challenge. I think education should be about giving our students all the opportunities we can so that they are prepared to tackle the challenges of life. I've learned so much during my time spent as a student at teacher's college, but I am SO excited for the day I have my own classroom and have the opportunity to really make that class my own. My vision for my classroom is to create a place where students feel safe to learn and a place they feel supported enough to take risks. I want my classroom to be a place they are excited to come to each day because I've created engaging learning experiences that challenge them to grow. I want to teach science in a way that will make it meaningful to students. I want to provide as many links to the world outside the classroom so that students know that what they are learning matters. I want to provide opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving so that they can develop these skills so they are better prepared for challenges and situations outside of school. I hope to give my students choice and a voice in how they learn and how they demonstrate their knowledge by incorporating a multiliteracies framework into my teaching and by using inquiry to let them decide what they learn. I want to challenge my students every day, but support them in their learning so that they are excited to be challenged, not scared. I am sure my philosophy will change as I gain more experience and learn more about teaching, so I am going to use the idea of a colleague of mine; rewriting my philosophy of education every year will be a way to reflect on the ways I have grown as an educator and as a way to keep track of what I hope to be in being a teacher. Who knows- maybe I will inspire my future self!
